Rakuing.

We also did Rakuing todday. For this you have to use a slip which will remove the glaze during firing. this causes a really cool cracking effect.

This is one of my pieces that used for this percess. This is the slip glaze.
Because it was the third time the kiln was on that day, it looked even more spectctular when it was opened.

This is the pinch pot below after i removed it from the kiln.

Glazing

Today Elaine showed us how to glaze our pots that came out of the kiln earlier.

Elain demonstarted to us how to do this process. You have to hold the piece into the glaze for 6 seconds, and then shake off the ecess.

This is one of my pieces that I glazed.
Elaine and Kieren then filled the kiln which is outside and run by gas. This has to reach about 1000 degess and has to soak at 1000 degress for about 10 minutes.

This is the Kiln when it was opened.

Saw dust is used to give the smoky effect. The objects are taken out of the kiln and are placed in metal bins on a layer of saw dust.

We let this bin closed for about a half hour to a hour and then this is what it looks like when you open it. You then place them into water to cool of. You have to be careful though with hollow objects as there is a poctect of air which and make the object explode if its to hot.

Painting.

Today we got to paint the pots we threw last week. i used a painting by picassio and took two parts of it to design this pot.

Pots

These are my finished pinch pots:

This is a cube i made out of two pinch pots.

This is one pinch pot that i closed at one side and tried to get a texture of a seed odd the seed pod.

Here i made holes in a pinch pot to describe the transparent holes that were in the piece of foam I was looking at.

This also describes the piece of foam as it had bumps on it.

this describes the shape of the bumps on the foam from the side.

They are going to be fired today and ill have the biscuit forms up next week.
