Guthrie Lonergan

Guthrie Lonergan is an internet web artist that i found this week. This is her Myspace intro playlist. I copied over her statement on the piece, because I cant rewrite it in anyway, it says it all.

"Searching for something else on YouTube, I ran into a billion 'Myspace intro videos' - people videotaping themselves addressing visitors to their page. It's really quite odd to see them separated from Myspace (they're on YouTube only so they can put them on their profiles, but you can still find them through searching.) I collected them into a playlist (or just use the controls above.) You'll get the idea from the first couple of videos.

I really don't want to make fun of these people, and there's really nothing shocking about them, they're incredibly normal people... But in some of them I sense this sort of awkwardness (?) that they have dealing with the Internet. These are very un-nerdy people making their own webpages, telling you to leave "picture comments," and pointing in the direction of where the "send message" button is on the page... I'm still trying to figure out what's going on here. Anyway, the videos are fun!"

This is a link to see the video piece it self, enjoy.

Declan Clarke

Declan Clarke is an Irish video and photography artist that was a visiting artist this week in college. He talked us threw his residencies and artworks in regard to video and narrative video.

We'll Be This Way Until the End of the World, 2008 is a video piece by Clarke. This is piece is dedicated to Daniel O' Connoll, as he films a sculpture dedicated to him on O'Connell street in Dublin. the sculpture of four female figures with wings, have gun shot wounds from the Easter Rising of 1916.  the entry wound is  so smooth it looks like it could be part of the sculpture to remember the hard ship of the Irish people where as the exit hole is so jagged it also gives this feeling as well.

Clarke also made a series of Videos where he changed monuments in a humorous way. Washing's Done, 2002 is a piece done in front of the Washington Monument. He did many other pieces like this, the Wellington Monument in Phoenix Park and Plinth in Bucharest and showed them all together on old TVs at an exhibition he did.

Text in the Dark room

I decided to try and use buildings in the city like Punches hotel closing down and HMV shutting its doors, and i thought it would be interesting to combine this with the growth factors of how the businesses were doing today. So i found on line articles and made little text out of plastic and a laser cutter of the same fonts used in these articles. i then combined it with dark room photography and came up with some pretty cool ideas. However because the text was so small it was very frustrating and by the end of the day i ended up breaking some of my text.

Little Red House

While i was in cork a few weeks ago I spotted this little red house by the river. Id no access to the house but I found the outside to look very interesting, by the way there was wire running along the wall and the paint was peeling off the walls.
